Lake Vrana on Cres Island

Lake Vrana on Cres is a natural karst phenomenon.

It most probably got its name after the village of Vrana which has a spectacular view of the lake, but the locals call it just “Jezero” – the Lake. It’s considered the deepest lake in Eastern Europe.

The lake is a cryptodepression – its water level is above sea level and the lakebed is below sea level. The lake supplies the inhabitants of Cres and Lošinj islands with fresh water. It is protected and access to it is restricted.

You can only enjoy a beautiful view of the lake from far away, from Vrana village.
